Dale Hurley I’ve relaunched TimeLodge.
It’s a tool for tracking time, recording expenses, and invoicing clients, built for freelancers and small businesses. The idea has been with me for a long time. Its story starts in 2008.
2008: the first tool
In 2008, I created a time, expense, and invoicing tool. The aim was straightforward: keep track of the work, record the costs, and turn it into an invoice.
Those tasks belong together. Time and expenses tell you what a job cost. An invoice turns the billable work into something you can get paid for. Bringing them into one tool made sense to me then, and it still does.
2011: launching TimeLodge, then walking away
In 2011, I launched the original TimeLodge as a side project.
Then I came across Harvest. Seeing an established product already doing this work made me question whether to keep going. I abandoned TimeLodge.
That was the end of that version of the project, but the idea stayed with me.
2026: why I’m bringing it back
In 2026, I see room in the market for an affordable solution for freelancers and small businesses. That’s why I’ve relaunched TimeLodge.
When you’re working for yourself or running a small business, the software you use needs to earn its place in your budget. Tracking hours, keeping expenses organised, and sending invoices are everyday jobs. I want TimeLodge to make those jobs easier at a price that makes sense for the people doing them.
There are established products in this space. I believe there’s still a place for a product focused on the needs and budgets of smaller businesses. That gives me a clear reason to return to an idea I put aside fifteen years ago.
What TimeLodge does today
The relaunched product brings the core workflow together:
- Track time: start a timer as you work, or add hours later against a client project.
- Record expenses: keep receipts and billable costs with the job they belong to.
- Create invoices: bring tracked time and expenses into an invoice without entering the details again.
- Follow payments: see what’s been paid and what remains outstanding.
The focus is on helping you move from doing the work to billing for it, with less administration along the way.
A fresh start for an old idea
TimeLodge began with a tool in 2008, became a side project in 2011, and is back in 2026 with a clearer purpose: affordable time tracking, expenses, and invoicing for freelancers and small businesses.
